We’re looking for a Principal Unreal Engineer!

June 25th, 2025

About Us

We’re Qloud Games, a remote-first indie game studio with ~30 team members from all corners of the globe, developing Loftia – a cozy, solarpunk MMO. It’s our vision to bring the creative and cozy elements of beloved titles like Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley, together with a persistent online, multiplayer world. Loftia will be the space for players to find their sense of belonging, and work together with the community to work toward a brighter and more hopeful future.

For more information about the project, please check out our Steam page and Kickstarter campaign from late 2023. Joining our 17,000 Kickstarter backers are over a hundred thousand (and climbing!) Steam wishlists, and half a million social media followers. We have been recently running our first closed Alpha playtests, which peaked at over 2,000 CCUs.

We’re looking for a full-time, remote, Principal Unreal Engineer who is excited by the prospect of helping bring Loftia to life!

Our Engineering Team

Our engineering team is built to be independent and fast moving – with a fully remote studio, we are looking for people who thrive in an environment where they can be given a task and figure out proactively how to attack it, without lots of oversight or constant direction. When we have folks all over the world, there is always someone online to bounce ideas off of, but with small windows of overlap for the whole team, meetings are kept to a minimum. We don’t care what hours you work – as long as you are pumping out great stuff.

Our tech stack includes Unreal Engine 5.5, Epic Online Services, Hathora, and AWS DynamoDB/Lambdas/S3.

Who are you?

Must Have Qualifications:

  • Proven track record with multiple shipped titles in Unreal.
  • 8+ years of Unreal Engine experience, including UE5.
  • Expertise in networking, performance optimization, and Unreal tools.
  • Skilled at translating game design specs into engaging and performant game systems.
  • Self-motivated and able to thrive in an empowering, remote-first, startup environment.
  • Able to act as a domain expert in Unreal, handling complex engine modifications.

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Experience with Iris, Unreal Replication, and related topics.
  • Love of cozy games with extensive play experience in the genre.
  • Development experience on PC and consoles (Switch ideally).

Employment Details

  • Form of employment: Full-time permanent (Australia) or full-time long-term contract (non-Australia)
  • Employment country: Our engineering team is generally working in Australia and North/South America, so preference is given to those candidates with similar working hours, but we are open to the right candidate anywhere in the world!
  • Employment type: Fully-remote
  • Start date: As soon as possible
  • Compensation: Competitive Australian market rates (international rates negotiable depending on experience and location) + Equity – As a startup, we have meaningful amounts of equity to allocate.
  • Benefits: (Very!) Flexible schedule, paid holidays, paid sick days.
