We’re Qloud Games, an Australian-based indie game studio with team members hailing from around the globe, and we’re developing Loftia!

Loftia blends the creative and cozy elements of beloved titles like Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley, with the vastly social and online nature of MMOs. It’s our vision to provide a space for players to find their sense of belonging, and work together with the community to work toward a brighter and more hopeful future.

About the Role:

As our Narrative Designer, you’ll help shape the world and storytelling of Loftia. This role will involve writing and implementing storylines, characters, dialogue, quest content, and more, contributing to a rich and immersive world for players to explore. 

Responsibilities:

  • World-building: Create and develop compelling storylines, characters and an immersive game world.
  • Write and Edit: Write, review and edit dialogue, narrative arcs, quest text, item descriptions, and other in-game content. 
  • Creative Collaboration: Work closely with the Creative Director and the game designers to ideate and execute on narrative concepts, responding to feedback and evolving the story as necessary.
  • Narrative Documentation and Consistency: Maintain documentation on writing style, character voices, tone and worldbuilding bible to ensure that characters and lore remain consistent. 
  • Asset Planning: Collaborate with other departments (Art and Engineering) to plan and ensure the necessary assets for your narrative content.

Requirements:

Please apply only if you meet these minimum requirements. Candidates must have:

  • Experience: At least 2 years of experience as a Narrative Designer or Open World Writer on a released game that showcases your worldbuilding and storytelling skills.
  • Interactive Storytelling: Strong understanding of interactive storytelling and how narrative fits within gameplay.
  • Branching Dialogue: Experience writing branching and non-linear dialogue.
  • Critical Thinking: Strong analytical skills to solve narrative challenges and iterate on content.
  • Communication: Ability to give and receive feedback, work collaboratively, and maintain clear and organized documentation.
  • Independence: Ability to take ownership of writing tasks and deliver high-quality dialogue and prose with minimal supervision.
  • Best Practices: Understanding of storytelling best practices in games and how to engage players through narrative.
  • Diversity & Inclusion: Contribute to a culture of diversity and inclusion through your work and interactions.

Nice to have: 

  • UE5 & Visual Scripting: Experience implementing narrative content via visual scripting tools in Unreal Engine 5 or similar engine. 
  • Cozy/MMO Experience: Experience developing content for cozy games, MMOs, or open-world titles. 
  • Published Works: Experience in publishing written content (novels, short stories, film, television, etc).

Employment Details:

  • Engagement type: Part-time or full-time (candidate-dependent)
  • Contract type: Full-time/part-time employment (Australia) or long-term contract (non-Australia)
  • Benefits (Full-Time): Standard annual leave days, stock option plan 
  • Location: Fully remote. Candidate must operate in an Australian, North American, or South American timezone
  • Start date: As soon as possible
  • Salary: Competitive market rates – based on experience and location
